Keeping Your Telehealth Visit Private

Keeping Your Telehealth Visit Private

A video visit happens wherever you are, which is a big part of its convenience. It also means you have some control over your own privacy. AnchorPoint Medical uses a secure telehealth platform for every visit; the steps below help keep the conversation private on your side too.

Find a private space

  • Choose a room where others cannot overhear you, and close the door if you can.
  • Headphones or earbuds keep Dr. Seavey’s side of the conversation between the two of you.
  • Let people at home know you will be in an appointment, so you are not interrupted.
  • If you are in a car, park somewhere quiet. Never join a video visit while driving.

If you find yourself somewhere you cannot speak freely, it is fine to reschedule. Call 573-217-6804.

If someone joins you

You are welcome to have a family member or caregiver with you during a visit. Let Dr. Seavey know at the start who is in the room. If there is something you would rather discuss privately, you can ask for a few minutes alone at any point in the visit.

Use a device and connection you trust

  • Use your own phone, tablet or computer rather than a shared or public one.
  • Keep a passcode or lock screen on your device.
  • Install updates for your device, browser and apps when they are offered.
  • Use a home network or your phone’s cellular connection instead of public Wi-Fi when you can.

Join only through your official link

Join your visit only through the link or app provided for your appointment, or through the Patient Portal. Be cautious with unexpected messages that ask you to click a link or share personal information. When in doubt, call the office at 573-217-6804 to check.

Share health details in the right place

The website’s contact form is for general questions about services, scheduling and telehealth. Please do not send medical information through the contact form or by regular email. To talk about your health, book a visit or use the secure Patient Portal.

New patient paperwork is completed through a separate secure form: the adult paperwork for patients 18 and older, or the pediatric paperwork, completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian, for patients under 18.

After your visit

  • Close the video window or app when the visit ends.
  • Sign out of the Patient Portal if you used a device that someone else can reach.
  • Keep any written notes from your visit somewhere private.

Your privacy rights

Your health information is protected by federal privacy law. Our Notice of Privacy Practices explains how medical information about you may be used and disclosed, and how you can get access to it. To learn more about your rights in general, see HIPAA for Individuals from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
